So there I was tonight, revising and reading, thinking and making mental notes on THE KEEPERS OF THE EMERALD CAVE, when I got to the last paragraph of Scene 51:
“I have been on duty for too long; it is definitely time for the next generation to take over. It is unfortunate my son Ladarius made the choice to go against his very nature and side with those who would wish to see the cave’s exploitation and destruction.” G-Naveen looked around the Emerald Cave with tears in his eyes. He sighed, and then looked at his family. “But he never counted on us. We are in control of this situation. He will not win.”
When I felt it zing through me... it was time to type those beautiful, most gorgeous words:
The End
This is such a powerful stopping point for the story...if I wrote any more, it would have to be this exciting fight scene I've already outlined, and when it was all said and done, that final word count would be around 70,000 words. Gah!! Too long!! As it stands now, I'm at 53,000 words, which is right in the ballpark for an MG. *PeRfEcT*
So of course I have more to the story...it is now sitting there, glaring at me from another document, the document entitled, "Future Story Ideas" -- it has been cut and pasted under the exciting heading of "Emerald Cave: Book 2." LOL
Guess I should work on some more titles for future novels.
:-)
I have already been revising this ms, but I will run through it one more time to check for continuity with this new, final ending in place. Plus, I need to make sure there are no plot tangles that aren't cleared up within this ms, or if they are, they aren't significant enough to disappoint anyone when they reach the end of the story. I am planning on another book or two or three...so there will be storylines reaching out to those future novels.
But I am really excited. We had a pretty nerve-wracking day here today full of Big Girl Panty decisions, but finishing this ms was just the thing I needed to remember that with the bad comes an awful lot of good.
Peace and bubbles.
:-)
